The proposed marina facility, which is expected to include some 300-400 pens, has undergone a separate Public Environmental Review (PER) assessment by the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) under Section 38 of the Environmental Protection Act 1986.
Designs for the proposed marina are formalised and will be located onshore as shown on the Concept Plan (1.65MB) and in keeping with the EPA's advice.
The following studies have been undertaken as part of the PER assessment:
- Groundwater level and water quality monitoring
- Dredge dispersion modelling
- Estuarine water quality monitoring
- Light attenuation monitoring within the Harvey Estuary and Dawesville Channel
- Estuarine current measurements
- Preliminary onshore acid sulfate soils
- Preliminary offshore acid sulfate soils
- Assessment of the fringing terrestrial vegetation
- Seagrass mapping
- Waterbird monitoring
Environmental Assessment Status
The Point Grey marina proposal was referred to the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) on 19 August 2008.
Subsequently, the EPA determined in accordance to the provisions of the Environmental Protection Act 1986 to set the level of assessment for the marina proposal at Public Environmental Review (PER) with a 6 week public review period.
The appeal period on the setting of the level of assessment closed on Tuesday 30 September 2008 and no appeals were lodged against the level of assessment or public review period during this time.
The Environmental Scoping Document (ESD) that provides guidance on the required investigations for the PER was approved by the EPA in August 2010.
The PER assessment report was approved by the EPA for public review for a six week period which closed on the 27th of April 2011. Submissions received during the public advertising period will be reviewed in conjunction with the Office of the EPA.
The EPA released their report and recommendations regarding the proposed Point Grey Marina on 5 December 2011. The public appeal period closed on Monday the 19th of December 2011.
